The State of Nature in Cambridgeshire 2022 – A Report of the Partnership (mono version – best for printing)

Natural Cambridgeshire, as the Local Nature Partnership for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, has identified six priority landscapes across the area where early action can be focused for potentially best outcomes for nature. Its Doubling Nature ambition has been adopted by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, which has made available a Fund to stimulate recurring investment into nature-based schemes.

Making investments in nature promotes health and well-being, and has a large positive impact on climate issues. There are significant carbon sequestration benefits as new habitats are established, and there can be climate adaptation benefits such as slowing flood water flows, movement of nutrients or mitigating overheating.

Natural Cambridgeshire is working with urban and rural communities to support the doubling nature ambition, and sustain the conservation of nature, with a strong focus on building community capacity, including volunteering. It is also working to help the local authorities, particularly with their obligations under the 2021 Environment Act to create Local Nature Recovery Strategies and to require developers to deliver measurable improvements to biodiversity.

Most importantly, working with farmers will help obtain the maximum benefit from the new Environmental Land Management schemes.
